Good Morning Starshine!

The Earth says hello!!!!

It’s about time i get my arse in gear and start writing again, after all, “inquiring minds want to know!” Said Reeta Skeeter always. Mind if I use a quick Quill?

Siri. All I can say is that she’s a lowsy friend. All she ever wants to do is ‘search the web for that’. It’s annoying. ‘Siri, do you have a memory?’ ‘I dont understand. Would you like me to search the web for that?’ Now come on, its a yes or no question, instead she feels like she needs to get on the net just to answer me. I suppose I got my wish, I said i just wanted to tell siri to ‘google that shit’….and now thats ALL she wants to do. I bet she’s doing it on purpose to spite me. -_-

I don’t really have much more to talk about, so I’m just gonna go into some reviews cuz I’m awesome like that.

First up is Cloud Atlas. Loved the movie, saved to my desktop. The book wasn’t TOO bad, but I honestly didnt care much for it. I think that this is the first time where i can say I’d honestly prefer the movie over the book. Its general theme is about how one’s actions in their lives can ripple across time and influence others. A smaller topic is that of reincarnation. Simply, its a beautifully done movie that really captures the two themes stunningly. And of course, makes me bawl like a baby at the end, just as any movie that has anything good in it will do.

For my book reviews, I have like, 3. But i’m combining two.

The first two are the first two books in Darren Shan’s new Zom-B series. The first is entitled, appropriately, ‘Zom-B’ and its sequel is ‘Zom-B Underground’. The first two books are clever and intruging, and as always, makes me squirm while I’m reading…yet Darren is such a captivating writer that I can’t stop reading…even as the creepy ass clown, Mr. Dowling, smile’s spiders out of his mouth…I would have died!!!!  I couldn’t stop itching after reading how the spiders crawled all over B. Ugh! Probably my favorite ‘recreation’ of zombies in Zom-B would be how their bones extend out of their fingers and toes. Not sure why, I just find it extremely fascinating. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Shan a few months ago now in New York City where he treated our small group to a reading from both Zom-B and Zom-B Underground….I read each book in a day, as I always devour Darrens books, and as I read the parts that he had chosen to read to us, I could just hear his voice echoing in my head…gave me the chills. Awesome!!!! 5/5 ‘Yummy Mummy’!

And the other review would be for ‘Parasite Eve’ which I’m currently reading. Not quite finished with it yet, but it’s extremely interesting! It deals with the evolution of humans and mitochondrial DNA, which I’ve always been fascinated by ever since learning about it in Biology. I have about 100 pages left to read and will hopefully finish by the weekend. So far though, I’d def recommend it for a bit of a scify read.

To conclude, I really DO plan on keeping up with this as i should. Its only the proper thing to do! And as a little bit of an added bonus, Imma talk just a smidge about my current writing project.

Set in a new, primitive desert world, the sun suddenly goes out, leaving all the inhabitants to speculate that something has happened to the sun god, Rasyn. A small group sets out in search of why indeed the sun has disappeared, and along the way encounters many obstacles (duh, without the obstacles, it wouldnt make for a very good read now would it?). But as the days pass, it seems as if the world itself is turning on our group as the weather starts to turn frigid and the clouds begin to fall from the sky. Will our heros discover where the sun has gone before it’s too late?

(I know, its a pretty generic summary, nothing too new or different in there, but in all fairness, i said a smidge. Not that i was gonna reveal all my secrets! Like a prostitute, a magician never reveals all their tricks!)

Wishing all the best and no burnt toast (unless you like your toast burn, then burn baby, burn!)

When it hits the fan…

EVERYTHING flies.

My thought for the night, why is it that when things go bad, it seems like everything else bad has to happen too?

Now, i know that when ur already in a bad mood, and something small happens that normally wouldnt upset you, since ur already mad it just makes you even angrier. But that’s not what im talking about. What i want to know is why, when your having a bad day, do all the bad things have to happen? Why cant they just be spaced out?

Cuz, i dont know about you, but id rather have like, one small bad thing happen daily, then everything happen on one day for the whole month, Cuz theyre your all irritable and angry for one day every month…wow…sounds kinda familiar…lets call it…a comma. Once a month, for one day only, you get to have a comma. Everything bad happens that day and you get to be crabby and have mood swings. Side effects: everyone will get ticked off at you but then go up to someone else and say, “hey, think they have their comma now?”

HAHAHAHA. Sorry, that went down hill…but it was kidna funny. ADMIT it…. 😀

So, I want to hear your thoughts on why everything bad has to happen at once, or rather, why do we have commas?

And for a special treat…it’s REVIEW TIME! So, im rereading the Demonata sereies by Darren Shan, and book one is Lord Loss. This series is NOT my favorite works by Mr. Shan, but they are still really interesting to read. Its hard to find that perfect balance between apealing to the sense, description, and creativity, but this book does it perfectly. He doesnt have long, leangthy sentences that just bore you, but he gives just the right amount of description so that you can form your own images, but at the same time, everyone would probably have a similar picture. I hope you udnerstand that, cuz im not sure how else to describe it…but, on a scale of 1 to 5, Lord Loss by Darren Shan gets 4 stars!

Evolution Revolution

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on October 4, 2010 by SpencerBlack

DNA, some powerful stuff. Little molecules of information that determine who we are and how we’re made. For something so complex its really simple. Tonight the topic is not DNA, but Evolution.

I don’t think humans came to be just by simply poofing here. No “I dream of Jeanie” was involved. In my eternal knowledge, i have come to think that humans were simply the result of evolution. My personal theory is close to that which is presented in the book “Memnoch the Devil” by Anne Rice. Which is that life was started on earth by a divine power, however, humans were not inteded. We were an accident.

And thats how i kind of feel. I think that a higher power created the earth, gave it the sparks of life, and let nature take its course. And over the millions and billions (maybe?) of years, we humans have developed.

How do i think it happened? Monkeys. My theory is that we are basically monkeys with a down syndrome- like mutation. If i remember correctly, the biggest difference between humans and monkeys is that we have two more chromosomes then them. So, my thought is that the first human was actually a freak of nature that was born to two monkeys and passed its trait on to its offspring.

Why do i think this? I just feel its right. It makes sense. Its just hard for me to imagine it any other way. I just cant see how humans can just poof into existence.

Please, for anyone who beleives in the whole Adam and Eve thing, or any other creation belief, let me know WHY you can believe that. Let me know how it makes sense to you. So theres your question…or request really….do it….

And as for reviews. Well, i reviewed this section today and its a lot of work for something so annoying. So ive decided that EVERYDAY i;m not going to blog about all three (unless i had such a great day that i feel like blogging about all three) but i will try and blog about atleast one of the three and give it a review.

My ‘review’ for today, however, really isnt a review. Its an expectation. A while ago i took a survey about Full Sail University (a college that i really want to go to but just cant afford right now) and for taking it they were giving some of the people who took it $40 for Amazon. I took it in hopes of the money but didnt expect to ACTUALLY get it. Well, today i got the email with my $40! I was so happy! So, with that money, i ordered and preordered somethings: “The Saga of Larten Crepsley: Birth of A Killer” by Darren Shan, “Hell’s Horizon” by Darren Shan, “Fable: The Balverine Order” by Peter David, and then i also ordered Splice since its comming out on DVD. So, i saw Splice in theaters and its an AWESOME movie, so for anyone who likes kinda sci-fi-ish/sciency movies, this is a really good one. And for the books, well, two of them are by Darren Shan, and that alone almost promises for them to be GREAT, Larten’s sage being a spin off of the Cirque Du Freak series and Hell’s Horizon is book two in his City trilogy which the first one was amazingly cool and twisty so im anxious to read the second. And Fable, well, im just a Fable freak so i cant wait to read it. Anyway, let me know if anyone reads/watches what i just talked about, let me know what you think of them and if youd suggest it to anyone else.
